Adobe Fireworks CS5 Cannot Close An internal error occurred

imageFor some reason today, I cannot close the Adobe CS5 Fireworks application. When I try I receive:

  • An internal error occurred
  • An internal error occurred

That’s right.. twice.

The Solution

1. Kill kill kill

First off, kill the application by starting the Task Manager (Windows is the assumption here, as the problem would not be there on a mac)

2. Remove some files

We on Windows XP, go to: C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Adobe\Fireworks CS5
Windows 7: C:\Users\<<username>>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Fireworks CS5
Vista: Who cares!
In that folder, change the name (to simulate a delete) or actually delete the following.
Language directory: image
I personally added a _ after them.
for example. This makes it easy to restore if needed.

3. Start Fireworks

After that, you start Fireworks, and you are done. It will recreate these files and the language folder. Error gone, all good.

There is a lot of discussions around about the fact that this appears to be a 64 Bit related error, and a lot of ticked off people who wish it was fixed since the early version. Personally I could not care a great deal. I know that not one person is reporting the same issue on a Mac. There is the permanent solution right there!

  1. Great fix! I was driving me crazy and I was about to reinstall but you saved me!!!! Thanks! Just one note, item 3. says Start Firefox

  2. Thank you for sharing! You saved me from re-installing too. I do not really understand how adobe does not show the much deserved attention to this great tool.

  3. Thanks for the tips. You’re right about your permanent “fix” though haha. Don’t seem to have any errors on my mac at home

      1. I know this is a very late reply but it’s meant for others experiencing the problem. I just had the issue with CS6 and it works for me as well.

  4. I searched for solution several month, deinstalled and installed three times but the error was there always again.
This night I found this page – and I can use my Fireworks as Long time ago.
Many thanks for this helpfull tricky solution.
PS1: The error didn´t occur, when I logged in as Admin. But I won´t work all the time as Admin.
    PS2: Sorry for my english.

  5. Loaded Adobe CS6 for about a Year now with the problem. Finally needed to use it a the suggesting of my lead. Had to admit never used because of this internal error mess. After 2-day trying to fix from our help desk. I decided to do myself. Thanks Much! Worked like a dream.

  6. It dont work with CS6
I fixed it by deleting all AppData of Fireworks CS 6
    C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Fireworks CS6
Delete All files in folder Fireworks CS6

    1. Thanks. For CS6, deleting the contents of the C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Fireworks CS6 worked for me. I didn’t actually delete the folder. Just all of the items inside that folder. Perhaps deleting the folder itself would have worked just as well, but I played it “safe” and just deleted all of the files inside that folder. THANK!

  7. C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Fireworks CS6\
RENAME above folder to something like that: \Fireworks CS6_a\ THAN start Fireworks CS6.
    Problem resolved to me !

      1. I plan to upgrade soon, I just need to sort out a full backup just in case. Fireworks has worked fine with 8.1 for ages and then all of a sudden… not.
I do hope that 10 does the trick, I swear I’ll never buy a PC ever again :-/

  8. Windows 10 didn’t fix it! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhh
I’m definitely going apple next time but unfortunately that won’t be for a while so for now I’m stuck with no fireworks
