For those of you returning to our blog, you will remember that we recently announced the release of an exciting dnn advanced login module. Well today we are reminding people interested in this module that we have an RSS feed that allows users to track our updates to this module. As we develop and improve the module, the releases and features of the releases are posted automatically from our MS CRM system to our website using the Interactive CRM Portal technology. Microsoft Word 2007 Crashes – Why?

I have an otherwise stable work environment, yet today I discovered the root cause why I sometimes have to reinstall office 2007 to get MS Word to stop crashing. The symptoms are that word started and appears to work ok, but I cannot select any text either right click with mouse or left. If I close the program, the application crashes with all the normal bull crap about recovery and bla bla.. end result is that word remains broken. After much research and mucking around (save you all some time) I found that you have to reinstall. Repair is just a moving progress bar connected to nothing, as I have never seen the repair install process actually do anything useful. But what I am excited about this time is that I worked out the cause. If MS word is open with a document that is not saved, and the operating… Read More »Microsoft Word 2007 Crashes – Why?

Hyper-v Guest OS Failed to start – Failed to create memory contents file

When trying to start a Hyper-V server we received this error. Failed to create memory contents file ‘F:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper–V\Virtual Machines\….(some numbers)…\..morenumbers.bin’ of size 2048MB. The solution for this problem is simple. Make more space available on the drive with the Hyper-V VHD file. The message is indicating that the drive has run out of space. It would be nice if Microsoft could dumb it down.

Silverlight 3.0 OOB doesn't auto update in my DotNetNuke Module

While developing Silverlight Video Library our next up coming DotNetNuke Module, the out of browser (OOB) experience Silverlight 3.0 brings is very compelling. But we ran in to a snag when testing the auto updating feature. Turns out this auto updating feature isn’t so auto coming from beta to RTM. After some hunting around the new classes available in the framework the following thrown in your App.config.cs will ensure in its simplest way your OOB app will be auto updated. private void Application_Startup(object sender, StartupEventArgs e) { // check for new version if OOB if (Application.Current.IsRunningOutOfBrowser) { Application.Current.CheckAndDownloadUpdateAsync(); } } private void Application_Startup(object sender, StartupEventArgs e) {

Unlock other user's checked out files in TFS

Don’t you hate it? A developer is away on holiday the exact time you need to update some code in TFS only to find it checked out and locked by them. The other day while working on our unreleased DotNetNuke Module Easy Events – Event Calendar (example running here) this happened. Open up a Visual Studio command prompt and run the following (replacing items with your details): tf undo “$/PROJECTNAME/FOLDER/FILE.EXTENSION” /WORKSPACE:MYDEVBOXNAME;Domain\User /server:SERVERNAME /recursive
